From interactive masterplan to scalable website

Celestino is a property developer with projects spreading across Australia.

One of the first intiatives from Celestino, The Gables is a new masterplanned development in North West Sydney. Just in case you’re not sure what a masterplan really is, the construction site is almost as big as a suburb being developed from the ground up with all new infrastructure including parklands, lakes, schools, sporting fields and shopping centres…

Interactive Masterplan

The masterplan is a bespoke tool to help potential buyers explore the location and make decision on which lot of land to purchase. As the development continues over 10 years, new block of lands will be released throughout this time and each new block layout will be updated to the masterplan application. Buyers can have a play at the sales centre on touchscreen kiosk or tablet devices.

Interaction Planning

I always think giving users options to navigate is a good idea. A couple of ways to explore the masterplan: search, filter, use list panel or interact with the visual map. These become the key tasks that users need to accomplish intuitively.

I put together an interaction plan to demonstrate the flow of the application. The most challenging part of the process was interface writing. We tested with many users to find out what terminology is the most intuitive for them.

UI Design

As there’s quite a few layers and interactions happen on the application, establishing the right hierarchy is first essential step to help users quickly learn the interaction model.

I work closely with our developers to refine the micro interactions and animations.

The Gables Website

The development website is the main information hub for any potential buyer to discover the masterplan concept and get latest updates from the company. The site was designed as a flexible template with modular components that would adapt with new brandings of any future developments from Celestino.

Celestino Website

The Celestino brand was formed during The Gables website development. The new brand requires a new website and the client planned to house all the development project websites under one hood.

Our challenge was to design a system that can scale and adapt to different project identities while keeping the site easy to maintain and update for the client's internal team.
